What They Won’t Tell You About Cheap Contacts
Everyone’s looking for a bargain. In these economic times everyone would like to find a way to lower their bills. There is the temptation for contact lens wearers to look for the cheapest lenses or solutions they can find. They are looking for bargains thinking that all lenses and solutions are the same.
Cheap contacts are widely available on the net from a huge variety of un-reputable sources. Many claim that they’ll be just as suitable for your eyes and are as safe as brand name contacts, but don’t be fooled. Brand named contact lenses from well known sources are subject to a huge amount of testing and procedure to ensure their quality, safety and comfort. Unknown, cheap contacts are not.
You can never be sure what you’re putting in your eyes if you go for cheap contacts, and could at best be causing discomfort to your eyes and at worst lasting damage. Cheap contacts, and their accompanying solutions, can have any number of unsafe and untested ingredients in them that will be far more likely to cause infection. Cheap contact lenses won’t have been properly fitted or measured, which can result in swelling, conjunctivitis or allergic reaction, to name but a few undesirable effects. You’re putting your eyes at serious long-term risk if you opt for cheap alternatives.
It makes no sense to switch from a known solution that has worked well for you to something else that’s an unknown quantity Walk past cheap contacts and solutions and opt for items produced by well known brands that you have had a successful experience with.
This is even truer if you are using prescription lenses. The lenses must be manufactured to the exact specifications of the prescription. If not, the lenses will not correct your vision properly and comfort may become an issue. Fitting and follow up are important. Websites don’t offer that. Always make sure you are using contacts that are made from your current prescription and make sure your lenses come from a reputable source.
If you are considering changing, though, do your research. Find the options and prices available to you for a product. Ask others about their experiences with a brand you’re considering trying. Ask your optician for advise. If you find an offer that is just too good to be true, you can be sure it is.
This is equally true if you want colored contacts or if you don’t need a prescription. Cheap contact lenses are available in any number of colors and styles, but are still subject to the same safety concerns as non-colored contacts from cheap sources.
So, always make sure that you get your contacts from an eye care specialist who will be able to advise you on the most suitable type and brand, and can tell you if you need a prescription or not. Never trust cheap contacts from un-regulated sources. You’ve only got one pair of eyes – don’t put them at risk for the sake of a few dollars.
